Brick Patio Design
Quality brick patio design comes in many styles and colors. Don’t forget the details. They can transform a good design to brilliant.
Style
As in any design situation, you must consider your style. What style is your home? Whatever patio style you design, it must coordinate well.
Traditional may be the easiest style to use as brick is a traditional material. If this is the case, choose some of the traditional patterns. Either a tumbled or standard Holland brick would be suitable.
A contemporary style really keeps your outdoors updated. Classic patterns with new brick styles and colors add a bit of sparkle. You may even be tempted to use traditional brick in unconventional patterns.
Modern style often transmits bold texture or color – or the opposite. It does seem a pity to understate a beautiful brick patio, however. The classic modern style utilizes mostly concrete, not brick.
A rustic, cottage look is oh so casual at your cabin retreat. If your budget affords, reclaimed brick would be an amazing addition here. Simple patterns keep things calm and restful.
Of course, there are many moods and styles to choose from. Simply understand your home and your character. That should be transmitted to your brick patio design right from the start.
Details
They say ‘the devil is in the details’ and that may be true here. Carefully plan for delicious details, and your patio design will definitely stand out from the neighbors.
One of my favorite details is the inset patio ‘rug'. Placed in front of a large patio door or fireplace, it’s a classic way to introduce another texture, color, or material. If you have stone on your home, a brick patio inset with stone, bordered with a contrasting brick perfectly harmonizes.
Bordering the entire patio with one or more coordinating pavers is a detail that should be well-planned. Make sure you stay with the same brick supplier and get samples. This will ensure that everything will come out as you’d hoped.
An inset pattern is a lovely way to get a carpet effect on your patio. Careful planning is again critical.
Feeling bold? Try creating a tile pattern or a large stripe. Inset diamond shapes in a contrasting color might be interesting.
Understanding the basics of patio design is the first step. Knowing the result that you want for entertainment, quality, and style of design is the next. Because a quality patio is an investment, design well so you’ll love the results.
