Pavers! Brick Patio Design Classic to Contemporary
Pavers never go out of style. And why would they? They're not only durable, they're beautiful. A classic look, it's been around for hundreds of years.
If you're into contemporary or modern design, don't worry. Depending on your layout, the entire feeling can change. One of the modern touches are the lights that are made to be laid into the design. (Another one of those 'wow' factors!)
On this page, I'll give you some ideas about shapes, patterns, and colors. They will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, so check with your local supplier before you make a final decision. If you need help with the layout, check the patio design page.
Shapes
Wow, this could be a long section. Patterns vary depending on the shapes. The classic shape is the 4"x8" standard Holland paver. This is also the most widely available shape and size.
There's also the tumbled brick which might have a name like 'cobblestone'. The rounded edges give it an aged look. It comes in various shapes and colors. A rough or rounded edge is typical of a cobblestone style.
Patio pavers come in different shapes, and in mixes of different sizes. (the hexagon shape or the chevron or the wavy look) There are even pavers made to look like tile.
Patterns
There are many different patterns available depending on what you'd like to do. I've sketched out a few options below. Make sure to take a look at the soldier's course -- it can be added to any design and is an interesting element.
Aside from the standard patterns, you may want to try a circular design. Some suppliers have ready-made pieces for a radiating pattern. If you're hiring a landscaper, they may be able to cut your patio into a circular shape.
Colors
The colors can be as bold or as subtle as you would like. From the red to brown, from concrete to charcoal, consider a solid color if your home has a brick with a color blend in it that is hard to match. A solid color would also work well with a modern design that has bold lines.
You may want to select a blend of colors. My favorite is the charcoal, tan, brown blend. It works well with many home's colors and if you add a soldier's course in a solid charcoal or brown, the effect is coordinated and beautiful. Check with your local supplier to see what's available in your area.
Get Creative, LLC is now offering patio pavers from Silver Creek Stoneworks. They offer a fresh look -- stone tile! Slate, travertine, or limestone in some nice color choices. You'll have people wondering if it's real stone or not.
On patios, sidewalks, around fire pits, under pergolas, around pools, and on driveways. They're at home in commercial applications as well as your home. Whichever use you're looking for, pavers can fit the bill.
